Getting Ahead Program

GETTING AHEAD IN A JUST-GETTIN'-BY WORLD

10-week workshops for adults ready to take the next step

When every day feels like a balancing act of bills, transportation, childcare, and work, it can be hard to imagine a different future. Over the course of 10 weeks, participants called "investigators" come together in small groups to explore how poverty has shaped their lives, examine the hidden rules of economic class, and develop a personal plan for building the resources they need to move forward. You are the expert on your own life, and half of what you will learn comes from the experiences and perspectives you bring to the table. Dinner and childcare are provided at every session.

WHat We Provide

Getting Ahead puts the tools in your hands to assess where you are, envision where you want to be, and map out how to get there.

10-Week Workshop Series

Approximately three hours one evening per week, Getting Ahead guides small groups of investigators through a structured curriculum exploring economic class and personal resource-building in a hands-on, conversation-driven format.

Personal Future Story Planning

Investigators complete a self-assessment of their own resources financial, emotional, social, and more and develop a concrete, personalized plan for building stability and working toward the future they envision.

Life Skills & Financial Literacy

Sessions cover practical strategies across key areas including budgeting, employment, housing, transportation, healthcare, education, and parenting meeting participants where they are and focusing on what matters most to them.

Dinner & Childcare Provided

Every session includes a meal and supervised childcare so that parents can fully participate without worrying about logistics.

Peer Learning & Community

Getting Ahead is built on the belief that people in poverty are the experts on their own experience. Investigators learn as much from each other's stories and perspectives as they do from the curriculum itself.

Graduation & Continued Support

Investigators who complete the program graduate with a personal action plan and a network of peers who understand their journey. Graduates are encouraged to stay connected and continue building on their progress.
